The Task Force has created a new video designed to increase community awareness of sex trafficking in this area of the state as well as help to educate the community about the online solicitation of children commonly identified and investigated by the Task Force.
Lakeland Currents, host Ray Gildow welcomes Naomi Nelson, Central Minnesota Regional Navigator with Lutheran Social Services, and Jim Exted from the Baxter Police Department. Together, they will examine the issue of sex trafficking here in central Minnesota, and the repercussions it causes in our local communities.
Sex trafficking is a crime that touches every corner of Minnesota, but many families continue to believe it only happens to someone else. For the first time, the parents of a human trafficking victim tell their story so that other families can learn how easily a person can be coerced into sex trafficking and how quickly their lives were forever changed. The BCA-led Minnesota Human Trafficking Investigator’s Task Force and our partner agencies are working to eliminate sex trafficking in Minnesota and raise awareness about this crime, but there is much work still to be done.
Across Minnesota, communities face many public health challenges, from substance use and drug overdose to human trafficking. Learning how these complex issues are connected can teach us how to solve them. Here, survivors and providers are leading the way.
